After an extensive visit to Taipei, we headed to the industrial city of Kaohsiung, the second largest city in Taiwan.
your skyscrapers of glass and steel were already visible at a distance from the train. The Cleanliness of trains and stations was impressive.
We visited the beautiful Temple of Confucius in Chinese architectural style and ran into a kindergarten class, the spontaneously sang a song for us. Cute!

By bus we went further south. Past deep levels of the West Coast and large betel nut plantations. The Kenting National Park was waiting for us with amazing kids and bikers hotels and one of the top 10 beaches in Asia.
An earthquake the strength of 5.2 on the Richter scale was shaking our beds. Kenting was exactly the epicenter of the quake. An everyday thing without damage.

went there by bus along the Pacific coast to the north. Past the coral rock of Sansientai with Dragon Bridge and volcanic remnants, steep walls and misty mountains of the Coast Mountains.
A lush vegetation, rice fields, betel nut, coffee and tea plantations, two-meter high Christmas star accompanied us up to Hualien, where we stayed in wooden huts in a forest hotel of the natives. The crickets were chirping us to sleep.
From here we reached by bus, the 16-kilometer-long Taroko gorge with towering marble and granite walls in the central mountains of Taiwan. Breathtaking!
Asia's most beautiful gorge is simply overwhelming. The beautiful hiking trails are excellent and good result at pagodas and temples along mountain slopes. Simply spectacular! One must have seen.
By visiting a tea plantation with a tasting of the best and award-winning teas from Taiwan, we completed a visit to the East Coast. By plane, we arrived back from Hualien Taipei, as the road was still destroyed by the last major typhoon. Inconceivable to struggle with what forces of nature and destruction in this small island in the Pacific Ocean and over again, like the people are prepared and how fast everything is rebuilt.
